Accelerated B.A. / M.A. Program in Anthropology

The Accelerated Bachelor鈥檚/Master鈥檚 (ABM) in Anthropology allows outstanding undergraduate students to begin the coursework for the Master of Arts in Applied Anthropology while completing their undergraduate degree. Students interested in this opportunity are encouraged to begin planning to enter the Accelerated B.A./M.A. program early in their undergraduate career, in consultation with their academic advisor.

To be considered for admission to the ABM program, students must:

路 Have a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA

路 Be within 30 credit hours of completing the Bachelor鈥檚 Degree

To apply, students should submit a short statement of intent, two reference letters, and a copy of their unofficial transcript to the Department of Anthropology undergraduate advisor. These materials will be reviewed by the graduate committee, and the student will be contacted with an admissions decision.

If accepted, students in the ABM program will file paperwork with the Graduate School each semester requesting to enroll in graduate-level coursework. Up to 12 credit hours of graduate coursework can be applied toward the undergraduate degree. Graduate coursework does not apply toward the calculation of the undergraduate GPA.

Upon completion of the Bachelor鈥檚 degree, students will need to apply for regular admission to the Graduate School and the Anthropology Department to continue pursuing the Master鈥檚 in Applied Anthropology. Students who complete 12 hours of graduate coursework while enrolled in the ABM program are able to complete the remaining requirements for the Master鈥檚 in Applied Anthropology in one academic year.
