Dr. Tim McCuddy is an Associate Professor & Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Sociology. He received his PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri鈥揝t. Louis in 2018. He is a faculty affiliate of the Urban Affairs PhD program, the 糖心Vlog传媒 Applied Research and Community Action (MARCA) Institute, the Center for Community Research and Evaluation (CCRE), and the Center for the Advancement of Youth Development (CAYD).

Dr. McCuddy鈥檚 research examines the social contexts that shape youth crime and deviance, with particular attention to how schools, neighborhoods, and social media influence offending and victimization. Across these areas, his overarching goal is to inform prevention and intervention strategies that enhance safety and mitigate the harms associated with exposure to crime and violence.

Dr. McCuddy teaches courses that bridge sociological theory, methods, and applied practice. This includes Methods of Social Research, Criminology, Social Statistics, Exploration of Urban Research Theory, and Survey of Advanced Quantitative Methods.  

Dr. McCuddy has been recognized for his contributions to research, teaching, and mentorship with the 2023 Michael K. Harless Faculty Excellence Award, the 2023 Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence, and the 2024 Graduate Student Association Mentor Award.
