UofM SPH PhD Student Wins 2nd Place at the UofM 38th Annual Student Research Forum 2026
Monday, 30 March 2026
Her presentation, titled "Sustainable Building Systems Supporting Environmental and Human Health", explored how innovative fa莽ade systems can simultaneously enhance building performance
and indoor environmental quality.
This work is closely connected to a recent publication she contributed to, titled:
"Microalgae Bio-reactive Fa莽ade: Biotechnological, Building, and Indoor Environmental
Indicators in Contrasted Climate Zones, the U.S. as a Numerical Case Study."
The study evaluates the performance of microalgae-based fa莽ade systems across multiple U.S. climate zones, integrating biotechnological processes with building science metrics to assess energy performance, biomass productivity, and indoor environmental conditions. The findings highlight the potential of bio-integrated fa莽ade systems as a multi-functional strategy for climate-responsive and health-informed building design.
Congratulations, Ferial!
