About Dr. Ellmo

Dr. Frances Ellmo is currently an Assistant Professor and Co-Coordinator of the PhD Program in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research. Previously, she earned a master鈥檚 degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of 糖心Vlog传媒. Dr. Ellmo has a variety of clinical experiences including providing outpatient treatment to drug court clients, assessing domestic violence offenders, working with incarcerated adults and with adolescents mandated to residential treatment. Her primary research interests include trauma-informed therapeutic interventions for addiction and justice-involved client populations, as well as training and preparation of counseling students in these areas. She also has special interest in animal assisted therapy and other creative therapeutic interventions.

Dr. Ellmo has presented at many national conferences and published research in journals such as the Journal of Addictions & Offender Counseling, the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health, and the Journal of Family Trauma, Child Custody, & Child Development. She is co-author of the book chapter 鈥淐ounseling People with Addictive Behaviors in Forensic Settings鈥� (in Forensic Mental Health Counseling: When Mental Illness and the Law Intersect). Additionally, she is an active member of the International Association of Addictions and Offender Counseling, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the American Counseling Association, and the counseling honor society Chi Sigma Iota.
